I did a lot of research and comparative pricing for the Noguchi Table before buying this particular once. It was the best possible choice for me. Many rival vendors and other sources warn potential buyers off what they call copies or fakes in explaining why some versions of this table can cost a thousand dollars more than this one. More power to those willing and able to pay such prices. But this version from Lexington Modern came with a beautifully finished base, and the glass table-top was as well-constructed as any I've seen on much more expensive pieces. I'm sure a trained expert or refined connoisseur of high-end furniture could find deficiencies with this version of the Noguchi classic compared to much more expensive ones, but I certainly could not; and I tried. The table went out from the vendor the very day I purchased in on-line, arriving three days later in perfect condition. It might have arrived sooner had it not been be shipped over a weekend. I don't have a single complaint, and will definitely check out this vendor first next time I'm looking for furniture.
The Noguchi Tribeca coffee table is both a beautiful sculpture and a functional table. While large, the glass works wonderfully to create a sense of open space. The Kirch GEF-222 is an excellent reproduction of the original. The base is made from solid hardwood (ash), and the walnut stain is a faithful American walnut color that allows the grain to show well. The glass is 19mm, or about three-fourths inch thick. There are several other reproductions on the market, so I'll offer two points of caution: (1) Other inexpensive reproductions use plywood. Sellers sometimes market these as "hardwood." They are technically correct, because plywood is hard wood in contrast to pressed wood, which is made from wood chips and sawdust. But a table made from "solid hardwood," is much more desirable and will last longer. (2) Some sellers reduce their cost by providing a table top made from 15mm (half-inch) glass. Such a table will be less stable. The Kirch GEF-222 is 19mm. Please note that I do not work for the seller, for Kirch, or for Amazon. I am a teacher, and an ordinary consumer. But I did do a lot of research before buying this table, and I am very pleased with this purchase.
